FLATHEAD MANUFACTURING MONTH
Flathead Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing that is meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers while recognizing the strong role manufacturing plays in our local economy. Flathead Manufacturing Day falls in line with National Manufacturing Day – the first Friday in October – but the celebration continues with facility tours, seminars, workshops, and other events for nearly the entire month. This year, to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Flathead County, we will not be hosting any in-person manufacturing events, but please keep an eye out for stories featuring local manufacturers and, as you look around you, consider the wide array of products manufactured right here in Northwest Montana!
Manufacturing plays a vital role in our local economy, comprising 29% of Flathead County’s basic industry earnings according to the University of Montana Bureau of Business and Economic Research. The largest component in the sector is the wood products industry, but it also includes manufacturers of computer equipment, energy, communications, food and beverage, machined products, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.
Flathead Manufacturing Day is for our local students, parents, educators, media, customers, suppliers and entire community. In an effort to support the workforce needs for local manufacturing, high school students are able to learn about real career opportunities when touring facilities and members of our Manufacturers Alliance have joined together to partner with the community and offer scholarships to students in the manufacturing trades programs at Flathead Valley Community College.
Flathead Manufacturing Day is also a time to enjoy a local craft beer, the finest honey yogurt, or a handcrafted spirit. The quality of products made by local craftsmen and craftswomen is truly amazing.
